Stored hot water can be two types of cylinders i.e.
Open vented cylinders require a cold water cistern in the loft most homes have this type of system. Unvented cylinders do not require a cold water cistern in the loft. The supply for this type of cylinder comes straight from the mains cold water. The benefit is your hot water will have more water pressure.
Unvented and vented cylinders can only be used with system boilers and conventional boilers.
